Pakistan Urges Verifiable Oversight of Taliban Counterterrorism Pledges

Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry has called for the establishment of a clear, effective, and verifiable mechanism to monitor anti-terrorism commitments in Afghanistan, following a recently agreed ceasefire between Kabul and Islamabad.

Speaking at a press briefing, the ministry’s spokesperson welcomed the ceasefire and expressed hope that the issue would be thoroughly addressed during an upcoming summit in Istanbul, scheduled for tomorrow, Saturday, October 25, and hosted by Turkey.

Pakistani officials emphasized that the Taliban administration is expected to uphold its commitments to the international community and take concrete measures to prevent terrorist activities originating from Afghan territory.

This call comes amid longstanding concerns in Islamabad over the presence and operations of militant groups launching attacks from within Afghanistan. Pakistan has repeatedly urged the Taliban authorities to respond to such threats.

The upcoming Istanbul meeting is part of wider regional efforts aimed at fostering security cooperation between Afghanistan and Pakistan—two nations that have seen a rise in border tensions and extremist attacks in recent months.
