Taliban Appoints Former Counter-Narcotics Official to Finance Role in Public Works Ministry

The Taliban administration has appointed Mullah Abdul Haq Hamkar, a former deputy minister for counter-narcotics at the Ministry of Interior, as the new Deputy Minister for Finance and Administration at the Ministry of Public Works.

The decision was made following a decree issued by the Taliban leader on 19 Rabi al-Thani 1447 in the Islamic calendar. An official introduction ceremony was held in the presence of several figures affiliated with the ministry.

In his speech at the ceremony, Mullah Abdul Haq described the Taliban-led government as a “system born of jihad” and called for loyalty to it. He emphasized that all members of the ministry are responsible for “serving the people,” despite widespread public complaints about injustice, rampant poverty, and the collapse of public service infrastructure.
