Displaced Families at High Risk of Malaria, UN Warns
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has warned that thousands of families displaced by recent crises are living in vulnerable conditions in temporary camps and face an immediate risk of contracting malaria. According to the agency, overcrowding and a lack of proper sanitation in these camps have created an environment conducive to the spread of the disease.
In response to growing concerns, the UNDP, in collaboration with partner organizations, has launched emergency efforts to mitigate the malaria threat in these areas. These measures include the distribution of insect-repellent wristbands, preventive and treatment medications, and public awareness campaigns about symptoms and transmission prevention.
The Taliban administration, which is responsible for providing healthcare services, has yet to take effective action to address the malaria risk in these camps, raising alarm among international organizations and local residents. The absence of an urgent and coordinated response from the authorities has worsened the health situation for the most vulnerable groups.
Experts warn that continued inaction could escalate the health crisis into a large-scale humanitarian emergency. They are urging all responsible bodies, including the Taliban administration, to implement immediate and sustained measures to curb the spread of malaria.
