General Abdul Malik Slams Taliban for Secrecy Over Pakistan Agreement

General Abdul Malik, head of the Decision-Making Council of Afghanistan’s Freedom Party, has strongly criticized the Taliban’s secrecy regarding their recent agreement with Pakistan, warning that a repeat of the Doha agreement experience could result in another catastrophe for Afghanistan.
In a post on the social media platform X, he noted that, just as the terms of the Taliban’s agreement with the United States in Doha remained undisclosed—ultimately leading to the collapse of the republic—the contents of the new agreement with Pakistan are also being kept hidden from the public, making its consequences unpredictable.
General Abdul Malik added that this is not the first time the Taliban have been accused of secrecy in foreign agreements. He stated that the group’s deals with China and Russia are also shrouded in ambiguity, allowing foreign exploitation and the plundering of the country’s natural resources.
He attributed the Taliban’s secrecy to their lack of public legitimacy, arguing that, since they did not come to power through a popular vote, they do not value transparency or the Afghan public’s stake in national affairs.
Despite several days passing since reports emerged of an agreement signed between the Taliban and Pakistani officials in Qatar, the Taliban administration has yet to disclose any details of the deal. Civil society organizations and political activists have criticized the lack of transparency and called for clarification and accountability.
