599 Afghan Migrant Families Deported from Iran and Pakistan

Hundreds of Afghan migrant families returned to Afghanistan from Iran and Pakistan on Tuesday. According to media outlets affiliated with the Taliban administration, on October 22, a total of approximately 599 families re-entered the country through various border crossings.

Details of their return indicate that 47 families entered via the Silk Bridge crossing in Nimroz province, 117 through the Islam Qala crossing in Herat province, 419 at the Spin Boldak crossing in Kandahar, and 16 via the Bahramcha crossing in Helmand province.

The continued deportation of Afghan migrants from Iran and Pakistan is occurring despite the ongoing dire economic and security conditions within Afghanistan. The Taliban, who currently control the country, have not provided any structured plan to accommodate, assist, or support these returning families.

The forced return is taking place at a time when millions of Afghans have fled the country in recent years due to violence, insecurity, and poverty. The deportations from Iran and Pakistan are proceeding without consideration of humanitarian conditions and without coordination with international organizations. So far, the Taliban administration has only released statistics and has yet to clearly articulate its responsibilities toward these families.
