Taliban Uncover Large Weapons Cache in Northern Afghanistan

The 217 Omari Army Corps, affiliated with the Taliban’s Ministry of Defense, announced it has discovered and seized a large weapons cache in the Namak Dara village of Pul-e-Hesar district in Baghlan province. The operation was carried out based on intelligence information in coordination with the General Directorate of Intelligence.
According to the report, the seized arsenal includes five AK-47 rifles, two DShK heavy machine guns, one PK machine gun, one mortar launcher, one rocket launcher, and one 82mm artillery piece. Dozens of boxes of ammunition and explosives were also confiscated. Additionally, the recovered items include 14 hand grenades and five anti-personnel mines.
Taliban officials have not disclosed further details about the origin of the weapons or the motives for their storage. It remains unclear to which group or individuals the arms belonged and for what purpose they were being kept.
This development comes amid ongoing skepticism about the Taliban’s claims of ensuring security and preventing the stockpiling of illegal weapons in Afghanistan’s insecure regions, particularly in the absence of independent oversight and judicial institutions.
