OIC Pledges Cash Aid for Earthquake Victims in Eastern Afghanistan

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has announced that it has signed a memorandum of understanding to provide financial assistance to victims of the recent earthquake in eastern Afghanistan, particularly residents of Kunar province.
In a statement released Tuesday, October 20, the OIC said the agreement was signed between Dr. Mohammad bin Suleiman Aba Al-Khail, Executive Director of the Islamic Solidarity Fund, and Mohammad Saeed Al-Aayesh, the OIC’s representative in Kabul.
According to the information provided, the aid will be distributed through the Afghan Red Crescent Society to those affected. However, further details regarding the amount of aid or the timeline for its distribution have not yet been disclosed.
The OIC statement emphasized that this assistance is part of the Islamic Solidarity Fund’s humanitarian commitments and its responsibilities in supporting populations affected within the Islamic world.
According to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), nearly 500,000 people were affected by the recent earthquake in eastern Afghanistan, particularly in Kunar.
While immediate humanitarian aid is still urgently needed, the Taliban administration, currently responsible for managing the country, has struggled to effectively respond to the aftermath of the disaster and to provide urgent assistance to those in need.
