Second Phase of Kabul Steel Plant Opens in Herat Amid Taliban Investment Push

The second phase of Kabul Folad Steel Smelting Factory was inaugurated in Herat’s industrial park during a visit by the Taliban’s Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs. The new phase, launched with a $20 million investment and a daily processing capacity of 500 tons of iron, was officially opened by Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar.

According to official sources, the project aims to strengthen domestic production. In his remarks, Mullah Baradar claimed that since the Taliban’s return to power, they have created conditions for economic ties with regional and global partners. He also noted that large-scale initiatives have begun in electricity production to support Afghanistan’s industrial growth.

The Taliban official urged investors to engage in Afghanistan’s economy with confidence in the group’s cooperation, seeking to present an image of economic stability under Taliban governance.

This comes as the international community has yet to recognize the Taliban government. Afghanistan’s economic landscape remains under the strain of sanctions, restrictions, and a lack of transparency. Investors remain uncertain about the guarantees provided by the Taliban, with local and international observers questioning their credibility.
