China and Global Bodies Welcome Ceasefire Between Pakistan and Taliban

China and several international organizations and prominent global figures have welcomed the announcement of an immediate ceasefire between Pakistan and the Taliban administration.

In an official statement, China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs warmly welcomed the ceasefire between the two sides and praised the mediating role of countries like Qatar and Turkey in facilitating the agreement. A spokesperson for the ministry also stated that China will continue to play a constructive role in improving and strengthening relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Richard Bennett, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Afghanistan, wrote on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday, October 28, that he considers the agreement “a vital step towards stability.” However, he expressed regret over civilian casualties during recent clashes and emphasized that the safety and rights of civilians must be a top priority. Bennett also stressed that adherence to international law is not optional and that all parties must respect it.

Meanwhile, Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), voiced support for the diplomatic efforts that led to the agreement, stating that fostering peace and encouraging dialogue in the region is an urgent necessity. He described the deal as a positive move toward building trust and establishing a stable future in the region.

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has also joined in welcoming the ceasefire. In a statement issued by the General Secretariat, Secretary-General Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa called the decision “a positive step toward lasting peace and stability” and said the agreement could pave the way for mutual understanding, dialogue, and cooperation between the two nations. The organization affirmed its support for initiatives aimed at achieving lasting peace in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

While international reactions have sparked hope for reduced tensions between the two countries, concerns about ongoing violence and its impact on civilians remain. The Taliban administration’s handling of border crises and its record on human rights are under close scrutiny by international observers.
