Taliban Temporarily Reopens Spin Boldak Border Crossing for Afghan Returnees

The Taliban administration has announced the temporary reopening of the Spin Boldak border crossing in Kandahar Province on Friday, October 16, to allow Afghan migrants to return from Pakistan. This crossing is considered one of the key transit points between Afghanistan and Pakistan.

The decision comes after the crossing was completely closed following deadly clashes last Saturday night between Pakistani forces and Taliban fighters in the Spin Boldak border region. The confrontation led to heightened tensions in the area, prompting Pakistan to fully shut the border.

According to official reports, the current reopening is solely for Afghan nationals returning under emergency circumstances. The crossing remains closed for all commercial or transit travel.

Meanwhile, other border crossings between Afghanistan and Pakistan remain shut, with no clear timeline from Pakistan on when they might reopen. The closures have caused significant issues for border residents and local economic activities.

The Taliban administration has not yet clarified what political or diplomatic measures, if any, have been taken to lift the restrictions or when the situation will return to normal.
