Seven Pakistani Soldiers Killed in Suicide Attack Near Afghan Border

Seven Pakistani soldiers were killed and thirteen others injured in a suicide attack on a military post in North Waziristan, near the country’s border with Afghanistan. The incident occurred on the morning of Friday, October 16, when a vehicle laden with explosives was driven by an assailant into the wall of the post.
According to security sources cited by Reuters, two additional attackers attempted to enter the military compound following the explosion but were shot dead by security forces. Meanwhile, Geo News, citing different security sources, reported that three attackers tried to breach the post after the suicide bombing, but all were killed before reaching their target.
According to Geo News, the attack was claimed by Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), an anti-government militant group active in Pakistan’s tribal areas. The TTP has organizational and historical ties with the Taliban in Afghanistan and has carried out multiple deadly attacks in the border regions.
So far, Pakistan’s military has not issued an official response to the incident. The attack highlights growing insecurity in the Afghanistan–Pakistan border areas, where militant activity has surged since the Taliban’s return to power in Afghanistan.
The Taliban administration, which now controls Afghanistan’s eastern borders, has repeatedly turned a blind eye to the operations of extremist groups like the TTP — a stance that security analysts say has contributed to escalating violence and instability in the region.
