Taliban Deputy Foreign Minister Meets Chinese Ambassador in Kabul

Mohammad Naeem, the Deputy Minister for Finance and Administration at the Taliban-run Foreign Ministry, met on Tuesday with Zhao Xing, China’s Ambassador to Afghanistan, in Kabul. During the meeting, the two sides emphasized strengthening bilateral relations and discussed regional issues.
According to a statement from the Taliban’s Foreign Ministry, Naeem described relations between Afghanistan and China as deep and historical, expressed gratitude for China’s assistance, and reiterated the Taliban administration’s support for the “One China” policy. He added that the Taliban seeks relations with all countries based on mutual respect and does not support forming alliances against any nation.
Ambassador Zhao welcomed these remarks, saying that Beijing fully respects Afghanistan’s independence and territorial integrity and supports continued cooperation with the country. He stressed the importance of dialogue and understanding in resolving regional challenges.
The recent Pakistani airstrike on Afghan territory was also mentioned during the meeting. Naeem condemned the attack as “unjust and cowardly,” claiming it had been met with an “appropriate response.” He reiterated the Taliban administration’s opposition to war as a means of resolution and its desire for good relations with neighboring countries.
In the absence of domestic legitimacy and lack of formal international recognition, the Taliban administration continues efforts to portray itself as seeking engagement with the global community.
