Over 1,300 Killed in Syria Since December Amid Growing Instability: Rights Monitor

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says at least 1,348 people have been killed across Syria since December 8, 2024, coinciding with the overthrow of President Bashar al-Assad. The human rights monitor described the current situation in the country as alarming and reported a significant rise in insecurity across many regions.

According to the report, 574 of the victims were targeted due to ethnic and sectarian affiliations, indicating that such motives played a direct role in a large number of the killings.

The observatory emphasized that the violence has spread to most cities in Syria at a time when citizens lack the necessary support and societal divisions are deepening.

The organization stressed that these figures are not just cold statistics, but a serious warning about the future of social cohesion and public safety in Syria.
