Taliban Detain Over 200 Afghan Migrants at Herat Border Attempting Illegal Crossing to Iran

The Taliban administration in Herat province has announced that its border forces have detained more than 200 Afghan citizens who were attempting to cross the border illegally into Iran.

According to the 207 Al-Farooq Corps of the Taliban, these individuals were identified and stopped last week in the Musaabad area of Ghorian district, near the Afghanistan-Iran border.

In recent years, especially since the Taliban came to power, the economic crisis, rising unemployment, and lack of job opportunities have pushed many Afghans toward unofficial and risky migrations. Iran, as one of the nearby destinations, has been a perilous route for many young Afghans seeking to migrate illegally.

Although the Taliban have shown no responsibility for improving the livelihoods of the Afghan people, they continue to suppress the efforts of those compelled to seek a better future. The detention of these individuals, without providing support or fundamental solutions to the dire economic situation, once again highlights the administration’s disregard for the needs and hardships faced by the population.
