Iran Calls for Dialogue Between Afghanistan and Pakistan to Avoid Escalation

Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Esmail Baghayi, stated on Monday, October 12, that the Islamic Republic of Iran urges Afghanistan and Pakistan to exercise restraint to prevent escalation and instead view dialogue as the solution to their disputes.

Speaking at a press conference in Tehran, Baghayi warned that any conflict or confrontation between these two neighboring countries could have consequences extending beyond their geographical borders. He emphasized that security and stability in the region, particularly along Iran’s eastern borders, are of vital importance.

He further highlighted that Iran issued a statement yesterday calling for the use of peaceful means to resolve the conflict between Afghanistan and Pakistan. Baghayi also affirmed that Iran is ready to play the role of facilitator if both parties are willing.

This comes amid renewed tensions between Islamabad and the Taliban administration in Kabul. The recent surge in border attacks and mutual accusations have darkened the prospects for regional stability. While Iran advocates reconciliation, the Taliban administration’s silence and failure to curb insecurity in border areas have sparked regional criticism.
