Zelensky Holds Second Consecutive Phone Call with Trump Amid Ukraine Turmoil

Volodymyr Zelensky, the President of Ukraine, has revealed that he held a second phone call with Donald Trump amid ongoing unrest in his country, describing the discussions as constructive.
On Sunday evening, October 12, Zelensky posted on social media platform X that he had spoken twice with the U.S. president over Saturday and Sunday. According to him, the main topics of their conversations were Ukraine’s security situation, air defense, long-range military capabilities, and the energy sector.
He explained that the second call was a result of an agreement made with Trump the previous day on a list of common issues, saying that in the recent contact, all aspects of these matters were reviewed. Zelensky also mentioned that Trump is fully aware of the current developments in Ukraine.
The Ukrainian president emphasized that the defense of the lives of his country’s citizens was central to his talks with the United States, adding that both sides agreed to continue their communications and that their working teams are preparing for upcoming meetings.
Meanwhile, Axios reported that the two sides have also discussed the possibility of sending Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine during recent talks, although no final decision has yet been reached.
These exchanges come as Russia’s military aggression against Ukraine enters its third year, with Ukraine remaining dependent on support from Western countries, especially the United States, to defend its sovereignty.
At a time when the world is witnessing various wars and crises, the ongoing close communications between Kyiv and Washington hold significant importance for the future of regional developments. Alongside these global issues, Afghans are also observing the approaches of different governments towards countries experiencing war and occupation; where the Taliban administration not only fails to meet the people’s needs but also obstructs constructive engagement with the international community.
