Iran Emphasizes Expanding Mining Cooperation with Afghanistan

The head of the Mining House of Khorasan Razavi province has reported a significant trade imbalance in mineral materials between Iran and Afghanistan, emphasizing that Afghanistan, due to a lack of significant export products, is primarily an importer of Iranian mineral and industrial goods.

Gholamreza Nazparvar recently stated that despite this imbalance, the mining sector is considered one of the potential and attractive areas for joint cooperation with Afghanistan. Iran is eager to utilize the capacities in this field to expand economic interactions with Afghanistan.

He added that Khorasan Razavi province, having the largest number of experts in mining and metallurgy in Iran, can play a crucial role in developing mining relations with Afghanistan. He stressed that these capacities should not be overlooked.

These remarks come as the Taliban administration, despite controlling mining sites in Afghanistan, has yet to establish a transparent, reliable, and sustainable environment for foreign mining investments. Economic experts believe that although Afghanistan’s mining sector holds exceptional potential, the lack of legitimate governance and structured economic policies remains the primary obstacle to attracting such investments.
