Afghan Migrants with Registration Cards in Iran Now Allowed to Participate in Hajj Pilgrimage

The Afghan Consulate General in Mashhad has issued a new announcement stating that Afghan migrants holding registration cards in Iran are now permitted to register and participate in the religious Hajj pilgrimage. This decision follows diplomatic efforts and consultations with relevant authorities in Iran.

According to the announcement, with the approval of Iran’s Immigration and Passport Police Department, migrants possessing registration cards can now formally apply for exit and re-entry permits to the host country.

The names of individuals holding registration cards who won the Hajj lottery have been shared in three separate lists by the Afghan Embassy in Tehran and the Afghan Consulates in Mashhad and Zahedan with Tehran’s Immigration and Passport Police.

Selected individuals must visit the Immigration Police branch in the Sattarkhan area of Tehran with two 3×4 cm photos, the original and a copy of their registration card or travel permit to complete the exit and return procedures.

In previous years, participation of Afghan migrants holding temporary documents in the Hajj pilgrimage was not possible due to various reasons, including administrative inconsistencies or legal prohibitions in Iran. However, persistent efforts by migrants and support from Afghan diplomatic missions have enabled legal participation for this group as well.

This development comes amid the Taliban administration’s neglect of the situation of Afghan migrants in neighboring countries, having played no effective role in supporting their rights. Therefore, the pursuit of this matter by Afghan diplomatic offices abroad represents an important step in addressing the needs of migrants.
