Pakistan’s Special Envoy Meets Taliban Acting Foreign Minister at Moscow Format Consultations

On the sidelines of the Moscow Format consultative meeting, Mohammad Sadiq, Pakistan’s Special Envoy for Afghanistan, met with Amir Khan Muttaqi, the Acting Foreign Minister of the Taliban administration. The talks took place amid growing concerns over increased activities of terrorist groups along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border.
During the meeting, both sides emphasized expanding bilateral cooperation in the areas of economy, trade, transit, and regional security. The main focus of the discussions was the current security situation and the presence of terrorist groups—a matter that has strained relations between the two countries in recent months.
The Pakistani envoy stated that the rising movements of these groups not only endanger cross-border trade but have also impacted the progress of regional cooperation. According to him, this situation underscores the heightened importance of security dialogues between the parties.
The meeting concluded with an emphasis on continuing talks to resolve shared security challenges. The primary demands included ensuring the security of transit routes, preventing illegal activities, and curbing the threats posed by extremist groups. Although the Taliban administration has outwardly promised cooperation, evidence suggests that its practical measures to counter terrorism along the borders have so far been insufficient.
