Taliban Officials Hold Talks with German Interior Ministry Delegation in Kabul

Taliban administration officials in Kabul met with a delegation from the German Interior Ministry, led by Mario Schotz, Head of Police and Security Forces of Germany, at the Interior Ministry headquarters. Mohammad Nabi Omari, First Deputy Minister of the Taliban’s Interior Ministry, represented the Taliban side in the meeting.
According to the ministry’s spokesperson, the discussions covered various political, security, and regional economic issues. A key focus of the talks was the status of Afghan suspects, accused individuals, and convicts detained in Germany for various crimes. Officials from both sides discussed the process and technical aspects of transferring these individuals back to Afghanistan.
Additionally, the issue of combating narcotics and exploring alternative livelihoods to reduce poppy cultivation and drug trafficking was raised during the talks. At the conclusion of the meeting, Taliban officials and the German delegation committed to cooperation in the discussed areas.
Despite these discussions, the Taliban administration has yet to provide clear responses to international concerns regarding their treatment of returnees, human rights conditions, and the weaknesses of the judicial system. These concerns persist amid the looming deportation of some Afghan nationals from Europe, with the global community expressing anxiety over their uncertain legal status upon return.
