Iran’s Acting Ambassador to Kabul Meets with Foreign Minister in Tehran

Alireza Baykdel, the acting ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Kabul, visited Tehran to meet with Seyed Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s Foreign Minister.
According to Iranian news sources, the meeting focused on the latest status of relations between Iran and Afghanistan, as well as ongoing and future plans of the Iranian embassy in Kabul.
Baykdel also presented a report to officials at the Iranian Foreign Ministry about the embassy’s actions in Kabul concerning bilateral issues, particularly in consular, cultural, and economic sectors.
Although the meeting was held within the framework of bilateral diplomacy, it took place amid the Taliban administration’s lack of international legitimacy, raising questions among many global institutions and regional countries regarding Tehran’s engagement with the Taliban government.
It is expected that such meetings will also address the concerns of the Afghan people regarding human rights, individual freedoms, and the future of national dialogue efforts.
