Taliban Foreign Minister Meets Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Delegation in Kabul

Amir Khan Muttaqi, the Taliban’s acting foreign minister, met in Kabul with a delegation from Pakistan’s Jamaat-e-Islami party, emphasizing the need to strengthen relations between Kabul and Islamabad.

According to the Taliban administration, Muttaqi highlighted the importance of reciprocal visits between delegations from both sides, describing expanded political and social engagement as beneficial for both nations. He also thanked Jamaat-e-Islami for its past support in hosting Afghan refugees over the decades.

Muttaqi praised the role of religious parties in Pakistan’s politics and underscored the value of maintaining consistent contact at various levels.

For their part, the Jamaat-e-Islami representatives expressed satisfaction with what they described as Afghanistan’s progress since the Taliban takeover. They argued that improving bilateral relations could enhance living conditions and called for removing existing obstacles.

However, independent reports paint a starkly different picture of Afghanistan, pointing to rising poverty, curtailed freedoms, and widespread human rights abuses under Taliban rule. Meetings of this nature are often criticized as serving a primarily propaganda function rather than addressing the country’s deepening crises.
