Taliban Envoy Meets Chinese Foreign Ministry Official in Beijing

Mawlawi Bilal Karimi, the Taliban’s representative in China, met with Liu Jinsong, head of the Asian Affairs Department at China’s Foreign Ministry, in Beijing. The meeting comes as the Taliban, still lacking international recognition, continue efforts to secure support from regional powers such as China.

According to a statement from the Taliban’s embassy in Beijing, the two sides discussed strengthening political ties, boosting economic and trade cooperation, providing consular services, and other bilateral issues of interest.

Liu Jinsong praised the history of China-Afghanistan relations, reaffirming Beijing’s respect for Afghanistan’s territorial integrity and independence. He also highlighted the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Karimi, for his part, underscored the historical ties between Afghanistan and China and expressed gratitude for China’s humanitarian assistance to earthquake victims in Afghanistan’s eastern provinces. Meanwhile, millions of Afghans continue to face poverty, unemployment, and lack of basic services under Taliban rule, as the group’s leadership remains more focused on seeking international legitimacy than addressing urgent domestic needs.
