Ansarallah Leader: September 21 Revolution Ended Foreign Domination in Yemen

Sayyed Abdul-Malik Badruddin al-Houthi, the leader of Yemen’s Ansarallah movement, described the September 21 Revolution as a turning point in the country’s modern history, declaring that it freed Yemen from the grip of foreign domination, particularly that of the United States.

In a speech delivered on Sunday marking the 11th anniversary of the uprising, al-Houthi emphasized the independence-driven nature of the revolution, calling it a divine achievement and the result of the Yemeni people’s sacrifices. According to him, the movement emerged from the realities and demands of the people, rather than media propaganda, and reflected a firm will to break away from foreign guardianship.

He stressed that the revolution was funded by Yemenis themselves and, unlike externally aligned political factions, was rooted in values of dignity, honor, and freedom. Al-Houthi noted that before the uprising, the U.S. ambassador in Sana’a wielded more power than the official president, interfering in key national decisions to serve Washington’s interests.

According to al-Houthi, Yemen’s governance prior to the revolution was under complete foreign influence, with ruling elites facilitating outside interference. He described this era as a full surrender of power to external forces.

He said the Yemeni people, through their uprising, ended this period of dependency and stood against foreign aggression under the banner of independence and national sovereignty. He hailed the revolution as a liberation movement that dismantled the imposed structures of domination.

Al-Houthi also claimed that the September 21 Revolution brought stability and security to the capital, noting that since then, Yemenis of different political and ideological backgrounds have lived in relative calm. He added that the process underway in Yemen is not only a rejection of foreign influence but also an effort to restore people’s power and national sovereignty.
