Central Bank Chief Opposes Fiber Optic Internet Cuts for Banks

Sources in Kandahar have confirmed that during a recent meeting on fiber optic internet services, the head of Afghanistan’s Central Bank voiced opposition to cutting off these services.
According to TOLOnews, the meeting was held earlier this week in Kandahar with several Taliban officials present, where concerns were raised over disruptions in telecommunications and their impact on the country’s banking system.
The source added that decision-makers stressed the importance of maintaining fiber optic services at least for the banking sector. It was also reported that in some provinces where services had previously been suspended, access has now been restored.
While the Taliban authorities have often been accused of restricting or cutting access to communication technologies, pressure from financial institutions and the necessity of keeping the banking system operational appear to have prompted a reconsideration of this policy.
