WHO Issues Fresh Warning on Deteriorating Situation in Gaza

Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), expressed deep concern over the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, stating that policies of starvation and blockade against the residents neither ensure Israel’s security nor contribute to the release of prisoners.
In a recent speech, he emphasized that healthcare and medical services in Gaza have reached a critical stage. The ongoing conflict and forced displacement of residents toward the south increase the risk of a widespread humanitarian disaster.
Adhanom called on the Israeli authorities to immediately cease their attacks and to facilitate the transfer of the injured and sick to the West Bank and Jerusalem for medical treatment.
The WHO chief warned that the continuation of hostilities and the narrow approach to addressing the situation of civilians pose a major threat to the lives of thousands, especially children and patients, potentially escalating the humanitarian crisis to unprecedented levels.
