Afghan National Statistics Delegation Visits Iran to Address Migrant Documentation

Afghanistan’s National Statistics and Information Authority (NSIA) has announced that a delegation from the agency traveled to Iran to review and improve the process of verifying Afghan migrants’ identity documents.
According to the NSIA, the purpose of the visit is to hold discussions with Iranian authorities to accelerate and facilitate the verification process for Afghan migrants facing documentation challenges in Iran.
With increasing restrictions on Afghan migrants in Iran, access to valid identity documents has become a major challenge. Many migrants without proper papers face the threat of deportation or other legal issues.
While the Taliban administration supports the return of Afghan migrants, the lack of essential infrastructure, basic services, and access to valid documentation has made repatriation difficult for many.
The delegation’s visit comes at a time when thousands of Afghan migrants in Iran urgently require valid documents to access education, healthcare, and legal rights—a fundamental need that the Taliban administration has also struggled to provide within Afghanistan.
